Meghalaya emerged champions in the 51st Junior National Football Championship (Boys) for Dr B C Roy Trophy (Tier-II), beating Karnataka in the hard-fought final by 3-2 goals, via tie-breaker at Barabati Stadium here today. The match went to the tie-breaker after play in regulation and time time ended in goalless draw.
Football Association of Odisha (FAO) hosted the tournaent at two venues here from April 22. Altogether 18 states are participating in this championship. Matches were played at Ravenshaw University Ground and Bidanasi Ground.
Additional Police DG Satyajit Mohanty handed over the winners’ trophy at the closing ceremony. Odisha Athletic Association secretary Asirbad Behera and Football Association of Odisha (FAO) secretary Sanjay Behera were present on the occasion.
During the interval of the final match, Football Association of Odisha released an audio for the promotion Federation Cup Football Tournament, which is scheduled to be held at Barabati Stadium from May 7 to 21, 2017. The song has been composed by singer Abhijit Mazumdar and lyrics by Nirmal Naik.
